Hatching New Ideas

If you’re having difficulty coming up with what to write try doing some of these things to get the gears turning!

1.) Check out Pinterest

Start pinning things that are interesting to you. There are so many inspiring things there, one of them is bound to spark your creativity and stretch your writing muscles. Writing prompts are especially helpful, and there are loads of them on Pinterest!

2.) Follow other writers

Talking and listening to others in your craft often works wonders towards moving you towards your next big idea! It encourages you to expand past what your current interests are, and might help you learn or fall in love with something new!

3.) Read books

What better way to find out what works and what doesn’t in a great idea than by reading to learn from other’s great ideas?

4.) Free Write

Check out the post on Free Writing in the Teaching Tuesday Unit (or ask an admin to tag you) so you can learn how to unlock your mind by letting your brain run wild, using a blank page as its playground.

5.) Daydream

Keep a notebook handy, but don’t actively write. Take 10 minutes to an hour, just letting your brain think. Don’t do anything. Just sit and see where your mind decides to take you. Quickly jot down any worthy thoughts you might have, and then go back to your daydreams.

What are some things you do to help yourself hatch ideas for writing?
